Appearance

Appearance in a presentation or training may mean two things: body language and the manner of dressing.

Your body language can affect your presentation more than it will seem to.  Your audience will feel your sincerity through the actions your body will do. Your body language will clearly reflect your personality and your sincerity of the points and ideas you’re trying to share. Emotions will be obvious on your body language.

As a speaker, it is your responsibility to know what the proper acts and the right manners for certain situations are. You have to know very well when to do this and when to do that. Of course, it is not proper that you smile or laugh when you are talking about something serious or even tragic. You have to act right.

Body language tells you that it is greatly important to have eye contact with your audience – not just one or selected few but all of them. It makes you, the speaker, more persuasive as it shows a more sincere you. You must also have the right posture – that means, not looking nervous and uncomfortable. You must be in a relaxing mood and have that grace to speak your mind. Your body movements will also contribute to your anticipated success as a speaker. You should speak with life and with purpose, not awkward or timid. Gestures will also be important, like getting natural and smooth, not forced or artificial.

Body language can be visual or verbal, and both account to a large contribution to having a good presentation or training.

Your appearance may also be seen as your manner of dressing for the presentation. It is a given that you must dress properly. Dressing properly means that you are wearing the appropriate clothes for the activity. You have to look convincing, and that, of course, includes how you look in the eyes of people who are in your audience.

You may need to prepare for the activity itself, and include in your preparations what you will wear. What you should wear is something that is professional to look at. This may mean spending a few bucks for the event, but your clothes need not be the most expensive and the most fashionable clothes in town. You only have to show much respected and well groomed.

Whether you accept it or not, appearance really affects how people receive the information given by the speaker. So take it in mind.
