Personal Style

Personal style is the key to the effectiveness of your presentation. You must first of all know what your preference is when it comes to your personal style. The book Delivering Effective Training Sessions defines personal style as ‘the way you interpret, organize, and “package” your topic.’

It helps that you assess first your style before doing the actual presentation or training. How do you assess your own style? You need to ask yourself some basic questions to determine what and where your own comfort zone is. That means where you are presently at ease at.

What manner of speaking do you prefer? Are you the type who is comfortable with doing lecture? Or you are more comfortable with doing dialogues and informal discussions and sharing?

When you are speaking, do you like staying in one place only or do you choose to move around?

Do you need a guide to help you out when you are in front? Or are you fonder of impromptu speaking and you only want to go with the flow?

These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself before plunging into the real presentation. Sometimes it is better to go beyond what you are comfortable with. You might want to try something new to you. It is okay as long as you know your boundaries. You cannot totally change your comfort zone, and it is going to be hard if you only force yourself to be someone you know you’re not. Just be comfortable with your own style, and you can surely deliver.
